We play friendly matches through the summer months against senior sections of the following golf clubs on a home and away basis: Burford, Donnington Grove, Ellesborough, Frilford Heath, Goring and Streatley, Harleyford, Tadmarton, The Oxfordshire, The Springs and The Wychwood.
These matches are competitive, but played in a friendly atmosphere where the emphasis is on enjoyment. Although we like to win it is not the be all and end all, enjoyment is the key word!
The day usually consists of tea/coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf (Pairs Matchplay format – see link below) and a snack/two-course meal afterwards – all in a convivial atmosphere and normally for a bargain price which is usually around £20.
Our dress code for the matches is a Studley Wood GC ‘Team Member’ white polo shirt and black trousers/shorts. Although not mandatory, we encourage all Team Members to adopt this approach if possible, or wear something comparable. For our home matches smart casual has become the norm for the after-match catering, as it is for most of the clubs listed. The requirement for jacket and tie now represents the exception at away clubs rather than the norm. Details of the appropriate dress code for each match will be given on selection.
We encourage people to play in the corresponding Home and Away match. Normal convention is that in the home match you would buy the opposition pair a drink after the match and drinks during the meal. They would then reciprocate this arrangement in the away match, when you would not be expected to buy any drinks.
The Seniors’ Committee wish to encourage as many players as possible to experience these friendly inter club matches. We are always looking for new players, so please give serious thought to signing up when invited. I am sure you will enjoy it.
